A new Streetdance club based at The Old School of Lisvane is growing in popularity with children around the local area. Dynamix Dance Co. has been running for less than a month but has gained a decent base level of membership that is only continuing to increase. While the tradition of dancing classes around Lisvane has been with ballet, tap, and jazz, Dynamix Dance Co. tries to fulfil the desire of some children to try their hand at streetdance instead.
The founder of the company, Michaela Hinton, is a Lisvane resident who has placed part of her success in social media networks. “Social media has played a huge part in reaching out to my target age range of 8-16 year olds…It’s quick and convenient and so consuming in my demographic’s lives that it’s the perfect channel to reach them.” An understanding of the ways in which social media can be fully implemented is necessary for a start-up business in this digital age. But a recent success has also been down to a more traditional method – flyering. “I received a phone call from a primary school teacher at Bridgend who lives in Lisvane – he had received one of my fliers and asked if I’d be interested in holding a workshop at the school”
As the business continues to attract custom from various sources, Michaela is already looking to the future: “as it’s only just getting started I have no event dates set in stone. I will be looking to put together squads to enter competitions for next year, though.”
Dynamix Dance Co. Sessions are held every Thursday at the Lisvane Old School. Classes run at 5-6pm for 8-12 year olds and 6-7pm for 13 years up. Classes are £3 and taught by the current Welsh Streetdance Championship title holder.
